What is TPI?
TPI stands for Titleist Performance Institute founded by Dr. Greg Rose and David Phillips along 52 member advisory staff of industry leading experts. TPI is the world’s leading educational organization dedicated to the study of how the human body functions in relation to the golf swing. TPI discovered how a properly functioning body allows a player to swing a golf club in the most efficient way possible. Additionally, TPI has analyzed how physical limitations in a player’s body can adversely affect the golf swing and potentially lead to injury.
Who is Dr. Michael Shin, PT, DPT, Cert DN, Cert BFR, Cert SFMA, Cert TPIMC3?
Dr. Shin is TPI Certified Medical Clinician level 3 which is the highest certification you can get from TPI medical level. Dr. Shin has been a Physical Therapist for nearly 9 years treating many golfers and sports medicine in Georgia. He has treated 2-time LPGA champions, Oh, Ji-Young and LPGA player, Kwak, Min Seo in past. He is still currently treating formal NFL players and current pro athletes at his private office at Peachtree Corners, GA. Dr. Shin believes that TPI has helped so many golfers to prolong their games and reduce pain during their golf swings.
How can Newcare Physical Therapy help you with pain during or after golf swings?
Dr. Shin will apply TPI assessment and Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) to figure out if you have pain or restrictions and weaknesses in your body. Then Dr. Shin will connect between your body and swing which called Swing Body Connection in TPI. Here is the simplest way to put it together.
- TPI assessment will be perform.
- If pain is assessed during TPI or prior to your visit, then SFMA will be performed
- Reset your body with physical therapy treatments or
- Plan your TPI program with Dr.Shin to condition your body
- Retest SFMA or TPI assessment to see your improvement!
How long does TPI assessment or SFMA take at Newcare Physical Therapy?
Usually evaluation will take 1 to 1.5 hours to determine your body. First visit will be all evaluating your body with TPI or SFMA, then full plan of care will be discussed with client.
